Don Brown, Jr., a Hiram insurance man and former councilmember, threw his hat in the ring to become the first announced candidate for Hiram Mayor. Brown served on the council when Mayor Dewey Pendley was in office and was the sponsor of the city's application as a city of Ethics program under the Georgia Municipal Association in 2005.
Indeed, Brown said his campaign will emphasize ethics and that was his proudest achievement while on the council.
The election is set for March 6. Qualifying for the Hiram Mayors race ends Wednesday at noon. When Jack Paris, who resigned from the office earlier this month, ran for the seat in November, he was unopposed.
Teenager arrested after threatening women seeking dogs from a bogus Craigs list ad
(Paulding County, GA) The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Investigations Division has arrested one juvenile male in connection to one or more false Craig’s List ads that sought to lure potential victims into a trap in which they were subject to an assault with a weapon. The juvenile male, described only as a teenager, is currently being detained at the Paulding Regional Youth Detention Center.
Deputies with Juvenile Investigations Division are continuing their investigation and are asking the public’s assistance with this rather bizarre seemingly motive-less crime. The modus operandi involved placing a Craig’s List ad offering free or low cost dogs for sale. When females respond to the ads there were invited to an address on Beranda Circle in the Hagen Farm Subdivison which is in the southern portion of Paulding County. Although there have been no reports that anyone has actually been physically assaulted, Detectives are very concerned that there may be an assault victims out there.
Detectives believe that women are being targeted for random acts of attempted violence - basically threats with a weapon - for no apparent reason. Robbery or even sexual assault do not appear to be the intent at this point of the investigation although no motive has been ruled out. Detectives are looking for other possible victims that may have responded to an ad on Craig’s List for a free dog. If anyone has any information that may be pertinent to this investigation please call the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Investigation Division at (770) 443-3016.
The investigation continues and its outcome will determine whether the individual is charged as a juvenile or an adult.
Wild and wooly Presidential Campaign topic of discussion at the PBA Luncheon
[/center]
Georgia's "Super Tuesday" presidential preference primary may be a big deal comes March 6, 2012, the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Jim Galloway said Thursday noon. Galloway was speaking to about 40 folks gathered together at the Paulding Business Association luncheon held at the Hiram Civic Center.
The big deal would be because Georgia promises to be the biggest state in play on Super Tuesday and if former Georgia congressman Newt Gingrich pulls something approaching an upset in neighboring South Carolina Saturday, the race to the GOP nomination probably will not be decided until Super Tuesday or after. And with Georgia being the largest state of those voting on Super Tuesday, the media circus which is the GOP campaign is likely to land right square on us.
Yes ... with Paulding being one of the top most conservative counties in the US and it being one of the state's larger counties, we might be right in the middle of this increasingly bizarre if not wild and wooly campaign. Listen to Galloway's complete remarks and you'll know from which we speak.
Oh, and for those who track such things, Galloway, who has covered politics for the AJC for the last several decades, said the group at the PBA meeting was among the most informed groups with which he has spoken.
