The Georgia High School Association has the proposed Region alignment on their website for the 2006-2008 seasons. Keep in mind these are only proposals and the schools can petition for a move to another Region as long as it is in the same classification.

Region alignment 2006-2008

I'm sure the Paulding schools will continue to play each other, but it does take a little bit of the fun away when we are all in different regions and classifications.

Region 5AAAA

Sub-Region A

Cherokee
East Paulding
Hillgrove (new Cobb school)
Sequoyah
South Paulding (new Paulding school)
Woodland

Sub-Region B

Alexander
Chapel Hill
Douglas County
Lithia Springs
Osborne
Pebblebrook

Region 4AAAAA

East Coweta
Hiram
Morrow
Mundy's Mill
Newnan
Paulding County
Tri-Cities

Yep, the Hiram and PC crowd will get to know I-85 pretty well.

EP and SP won't travel as far as in the past, just have to deal with more traffic. mad.gif

I think with growth the way it is you will see EP petition to go into 5A. I may be wrong but I just have that little birdie told me feeling.

NewHope you may be right. The last time the regions were aligned all 3 Paulding High Schools petitioned to be moved from a region which included Douglas County schools and Atlanta schools to 7AAAA which was the North Georgia schools, where we ended up. I didn't mind the travel, it beats sitting in traffic.

I haven't spoken to Coach Kuss since the proposals came out, but I bet he is thinking of moving to AAAAA also. Simply because our attendance numbers are close to the AAAAA schools. Were right at 1800 students which is on the high side for AAAA. I would like to see us stay with Hiram and PC.

If not this time, certainly next time realignment occurs, EP will move to AAAAA because the next HS that is built in the county is way on down the road.

We may have the numbers, but many of our kids are new arrivals to this county and have not been playing their perspective sports for as long as the AAAAA schools have. We definately need more youth programs in all sports, (Especially Wrestling) before we can compete with AAAAA schools. It is not all about numbers....quality over quantity, I say. We need to keep building quaility.

Ew this is true but the proposed 5a distict would be much weaker in wrestling than the current region were in now. The only reason were not being pushed to 5a is because the devolpment of East Paulding district is proceeding slightly slower than Hiram. East PAuldings district will be over flowing as soon as the devolpment is finished. They might as well go ahead and put all the Paulding schools up to 5a, and for god sakes can we build a bigger school. The new school should be two stories and should hold at least 2200 -2500 kids. Not cram 1800 into 1600 max school. Look ahead for once school board. Plan for the future not the present problems.

About the AAAAA disscussion. I can't speak for all our counties sports. I do feel our students stand a better shot at gaining exposure by competing in AAAA.

I also agree that in the proposed AAAAA region all 3 County School's wrestlers will be able to qualify many kids for state easier but when the state competition begins placing will be much more difficult.

In the new region we would have the opportunity to qualify many boy's for state, but most likely would have difficulty placing them in AAAAA. We would be giving up the chance to place many student athletes in the state tournament, which offers exposure for Collegiate Wrestling Programs. The jump between AAAA and AAAAA is very significant.

None of our counties wrestling programs have middle schools or youth feeder programs, yet. biggrin.gif Hopefully, we will be able to get some started

I can't think of many AAAAA wrestling programs which have to travel to a local elementary school to practice(6-tease.gifm every night). Which by the way, will end soon with the new additions to our local high schools. Thank you kindly for supporting s.p.l.o.s.t. and to our School Board and Mrs. Sowar for planning and passing the additions.

Jr. Raider Wrestling Camp for 2nd-9th graders at EPHS July12-14 8:30am-4:00pm. Flyers in EPHS main office.
