EP has plenty of playoff experience on this team, so if we get hot, we could pull the upset this week.
Good luck to the Raiders!!!

Sheddweller,
I put out an e-mail, a few months back, asking for boys basketball AAU information. You were one of the people that responded. I just wanted to let you know that I eventually found him a team in the South Cobb area. This was the first year, of this particular organization, but the teams did good overrall. My son plays with the 12 & under group(they also had 10U & 11U), and they will be playing this weekend in a Final Four showdown in the YBOA championships. This final four placement also gave them an automatic bid to the YBOA nationals in Orlando, Florida(towards the end of July). My son wasn't too thrilled with the idea of playing with the AAU team, in the beginning, but now he says that he will play next year. I think he was just a bit intimidated, at first, because the game became more aggressive than he was use to. I can tell that it was good for him, and he should do well on his 7th grade middle school team next year. The 8th grade coach has actually been considering letting him play on the 8th grade team, but I guess we'll see when the time comes. I don't want to rush him into anything before he's ready. And even though the AAU experience has been beneficial, I'm still open for any suggestions to any other reputable teams that you may know of. I haven't been too impressed with the coaching conflicts that occurred with this current team. The head coach is a good basketball coach(and also a strength & agility coach, but the assistant coach was trying to run the show. From what I can tell, he doesn't know too much about the game, and he also overrode many of the head coaches decisions. Since they are apparently good friends, the head coach didn't do much to stand ground. Therefore, my son constantly complained about being confused on the court because after he would receive instructions from the head coach, the assistant would go behind him and make changes to the plan. My son was really uncomfortable with that much of the season. He was a starting player, and I thought he adjusted very well. Even though he was aggravated with the back and forth instructions, he never lost his head. You could never tell that he was aggravated on the court. Also, I don't think they gave him enough opportunities to show his real talent, which is really guard play. He has a beautiful three-point shot, and jump shot, and he can handle the ball, but because of his height(about 5'10", size 13 shoe), they were constantly trying to make a big man out of him. He had his best game of the season from outside the arc(5 straight 3's, 22 pts in the game). Yet, they still pushed him to play on the inside. Of course, it's helped to make him more aggressive in the paint, but I think he's a better guard player, or maybe a power forward.
Anyway, let me know if you run across any good 13U teams around this area(including Douglasville, South Cobb, Acworth, Marietta). I know that Hiram had a team(Hiram Stingers), but I think it was 15yrs to 17yrs, or somewhere around that age. We ran across them at a few tournaments. Thanks again for your advice and help.

Glad you were able to find a team to play with this year. If basketball is the sport he is committed to, AAU/YBOA will help him get ready for Middle school ball. My oldest son started playing AAU in 7th grade and played until he graduated HS last year. As you've seen, the coaching is not always the best, but playing against other kids that are working at their game, is the best experience.
My best advice on a team would be to contact someone from a team in the tournament that may be close to our area, Marietta, Smyrna, Douglasville, something like that. Try to make contact and get a phone number for next year.
I know several of the kids from EP are playing with Georgia Devils and the Georgia Rattlers, I'm not sure if they have younger teams or not.
Congratulations on qualifying for the National Tournament. Take every bit of it in because it will fly by, trust me I know. Our team, which was the Tri-County Timberwolves qualifed for Nationals 4 out of the 6 years we were together. Our best finish was 5th at Nationals. We were able to win 1 State Title and was runnerup another year. Most of our players came from Paulding, Cobb and Douglas counties.
Josh Smith, who is now playing with the Atlanta Hawks, played with us for 2 years before he hit the big time and started playing with the Atlanta Celtics.
Good luck.

The East Paulding baseball team swept a doubleheader at Forest Park Friday night, winning the 1st game 17-1 and won the nightcap 13-4. Great pitching and hitting from EP, which is what it takes to advance in the tournament.
Now it's on to round 2 in the State Tournament with a best out of 3 series with Eastside High School, in Covington. All games will be played at Eastside. Doubleheader schedule for 5-18-05, 3rd and deciding game if necessary, will be played on Thursday.
Great job Raiders!!! One game at a time, one series at a time.

East Paulding won the 1st game 9 - 4 over Eastside in 8 innings. The bats must have woke up in the extra inning.
EP is leading in the 2nd game, at the end of the 5th inning EP 3 - Eastside 2.
GO YOU MIGHTY RAIDERS!!!

I've exhausted all of my resources trying to get a final score for the 2nd game. Hopefully someone will hear something sometime today.
Geez, it's hard to believe in this day and time, it takes this long to get the results.

Now we will face Lee County HS which is in Albany. Should be a nice little road trip. Not sure of the day and times. It will also be a best of 3 series. The Lee County baseball team is ranked #1 in the coaches poll. So we certainly have our work cut out for us.
You've made us mighty proud guys. Congratulations to the players, Coach Green and his staff, administrators and students at East Paulding. Also congrats to the baseball parents, enjoy the ride.
Like the motto goes, one game at a time, one series at a time.
edited to add game date and times.
Doubleheader is scheduled for Tuesday May 24th starting at 4:30pm in Leesburg. If a game 3 is necessary, it will be played the following day.

This team is one of the final 8 teams in AAAA classification playing for a State Championship.
Most of our Seniors made it this far as Sophomores in 2003. So the bright lights

Lee County is ranked # 1 in the state, so we've got our work cut out for us, but hey, that's why they play the game. You've earned the right to be here Raiders, just leave it all on the field.
Good luck Raiders, were mighty proud of you.
I'm not going to be able to make the trip, but if your heading to the games, I've been told to watch for the speed traps in the city of Warwick.
Also, they say they've got a place near Lake Blackshear that has the best sausage around, it's called Striplings, might be worth a stop.
All Raider fans be safe in you travels today.

I know it hurts right now, but we have a had a fantastic season. Congratulations on making it to the final 8 teams playing in the state. To our Seniors, I say thank you for your efforts in making EP baseball what it is. Good luck to all of you in the future. To our returning players, you picked up some valuable experience this year and now you know what it takes to play on the State level. To Coach Green and his staff, thank you for running a quality program with class and dignity. People are always very complimentary of the type of kids we have at EP and that is something I am very proud of.
And so for the last time of the 2004-2005 season.
