For the past several years, I have performed summer shows at a Christian summer retreat in New Jersey. The man who serves as the executive officer there is connected to SHARE Education Services, a non-profit organization that is focused on providing education services and resources to missionary families in Europe, Russia, and central Asia.

After reviewing my presentations at the New Jersey location, and after discussing their needs for 2010, they have invited me to come and be part of their upcoming education conference. In addition to being part of the daily worship services, they have asked me to teach part of my memory training seminar to the older kids. My physics education background is also going to come into play, because the theme for the young kids this year is astronomy - I will be constructing some fun astronomy lessons for each day. They also want Mrs. JMT to come over and do part of her dance ministry workshop and work on dance, creative movement and worship with the younger children.
Like the others involved, we will not be paid for participating in the conference. It is a mission trip to provide support, encouragement, creative tools, and unique worship experiences to missionaries and their families who are in the field. These families have committed years of their lives to serve God in the mission field, but they obviously wish to continue their kids' education while doing so. Many do so through home-schooling. We are all encouraged to go to our friends and neighbors and ask for their support of our work and of the conference, both in prayer and in finances. I have already turned down paying work for that week because I'm committed to the conference's purpose.
This is not a vacation or a glamorous trip by any means. We will be in Sopron, Hungary - a small city in the northwestern part of the country. We'll be in a rather stark setting, focusing on worship and education.
The bottom line is that I need to raise $1500 to cover expenses and I've been asked to raise as much of it as possible through small donations and support from people who will also commit to praying for the conference and for the families who will be participating.
If you feel moved to support me, my wife, and our 2010 mission commitment to this conference, I'd appreciate any contribution you might be willing to make. $5, $10, $20, or more... we will be grateful for any amount. I can accept small cash donations if that's what you wish to do -- some folks have just given a few dollars and entrusted me to handle it honorably, which I commit to do before God and all of you. But if you would like to get the benefit of a tax deductible donation, you can contact SHARE Education Services and tell them you wish to contribute to support the Turners' trip. That money will be used to reimburse specific conference expenses (transportation and lodging), and not for any personal use.
With or without your financial participation, we ask you for your prayer for the conference and our personal work with and for these families. If you will commit to pray for us and for the conference, would you send me a PM or email me?
Thanks in advance for your consideration and support and for letting me post this request on pcom.
