As most of you probably know I have a 4/2 house for rent just reduced the rent this week to $865. Well today a lady that I showed the house to on Tuesday called and said WOW I see that you reduced the house again and it is now $700. I said Um...NO. She said yeah it was just posted on Craigslist with the same photos and everything just no number to call so I had to look back at your previous posting. I said Um...NO. She said yeah it just went up in the last hour. Came home and there it is my posting almost exactly with same photos reduced to $700/mo. WTH??????????? We have since posted a SCAM alert on Craigslist!!!! Not sure what else to do. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

This is the first time anything like this has ever happened. If the prospective tenant hadn't called I would never have known.

Bump. More info on this SCAM. We contacted the listing through Craigslist and here is what we got back.....P.S. as soon as we posted a SCAM alert their listing was pulled

This is a phishing scam, please remove the above website before someone here has their ID stolen.

This scam has been around for a couple of years. They also do this with houses for sale, usually FSBO's. I have seen some reports where people moved into vacant listings because of these scams and the legal owners had to evict them.

The listing site you mentioned in your first post is full of scams!

A year after we moved to Paulding County and the lease on the home we were living was about to end, we decided to buy and responded to an ad in the AJC. Called the number and the man I talked to said he was a former Atlanta Falcons player, Don Jacobs, and had purchased and invested in homes to resale. He told us where the house was located (in Creekside Subdivision) and told us to drive by it and let him know if we were interested. After driving by the house and walking around the yard, we decided we were interested. He wanted $5,000 down and was doing owner financing on the balance. Several conversations followed and we set up a time to meet him to go inside the home. He later called and said something had come up but told us how to get in the house. When we went, the key was not where he said it would be. At some point he wanted us to pay the $5,000 down because he had someone else who was wanting the home, but he "really liked us and wanted us to have it." Keep in mind, we had never met him NOR seen the house!!!! We called the name and number of the Real Estate Agent on the sign in the yard (he had given an explanation for that, too) and BINGO! She had no knowledge of this person and knew for a fact he did not have the authority to sell it!!!!!

Ummmmmmmm.........we might not be the smartest people on the planet but we did know enough NOT to hand over $5,000 to buy a house we had not seen!!! DUH?????
