Yes, I cheer for the Raiders 100% -- BUT in doing so, I don't make personal remarks about other schools players. All the "Raider Haters" feel the need to take everything to a personal level -- yes, we have a good team -- so what??? Is it really necessary to WISH failure on a bunch of kids that have been working their butts off? Does it make you all feel better about your team?

*********NEWS FLASH PEOPLE ************

It IS possible to have FRIENDLY RIVALRIES!!!!! Or is this unchartered territory in Paulding County?????

Perhaps all the parents and fans should pay extra close attention to the way the players handle FRIENDLY RIVALRIES! You might learn a thing or two!

I agree 1000% percent with you. You can support your team without trying to tear down another one.

I wasnt tearing down anyone. I was stating my opinion of the way North will impact EP. I said it affected this years Freshman class at EP and it did, if you didnt see that then you are blind. The county AD's I have spoken with expressed the same thing including your very own. If the schools were still combined that freshman class would be amazing, so it does have an affect.

Good move, mama...he steal your password? tongue.gif

Mine isn't allowed to even look at the Georgia varsity sports vent, and him posting on it would be a capital offense. PC.com is much more gentle, but the sports talk section of the board can get out of hand in a hurry.

I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about in general on this board. In general Pcom is lacking in sports talk.

I guess that we are suppose to take that as positive criticism, not the insult that it was meant to be.

But of course!

I'd venture to say that there are some mother's on here that know a tad bit more than bball about sports -- we just don't conduct ourselves in that same manner.

That's okay though -- let some people think I'm clueless about sports. All that really matters in the end is whether or not my boys are clueless -- and they will dispell any doubt when they get on that field!

Might make the sting of our team a little deeper come game day!

Nice, I didnt say you were clueless. Maybe you have trouble interpreting though since I clearly said I wasnt talking about you. You can say that but that is just ridiculous, sports is how I make my living. I dont just follow one county team, I follow them all and support them all the same way. I dont have a team in the fight so I am not biased.

Sports is just one small part of PC.com, so I don't really expect it to be like it is on GAVSV. What I meant is that even though there's a smaller group on here to discuss sports with, things can still get out of hand at times. The passion and support is there BIG TIME in Paulding, but I doubt any high school athletics program in the county will attain their highest level of success until the bass-ackwards leadership at the County BOE and Parks/Rec change their mentality about how to run things. I ain't saying that the way Cobb or Gwinnett does it is the only way...but the number of state championship banners hung in our schools says a lot. I've seen nothing that brings a school and community together like a successful athletic team- not an excellent fine arts program, not a great math team, not even a great SAT average.

Thanks for the kind words regarding my lil' GAVSV visits. smile.gif

The BOE is and will always be the biggest problem with sports in the county, support and determination is there from the school and community but not from the people in charge. Its sad.

Truly -- I'm not on this Board to make enemies and I certainly don't want to argue like a kid in school! I was offended by a few remarks you made about our team because I perceived them as tearing our kids down -- which really translates to tearing my kids down -- but I commented on them already.

Naturally, I'm a diehard EP fan because I have two boys that play for the Raiders. However, after that -- I'm a diehard football fan! (and basketball... and baseball) I thoroughly enjoy watching a great game of football. We have SOOO many talented boys in this surroudning area ... it really makes the games a pleasure to watch! Recognizing a high school player as one that I used to watch in a pound ball game is just a wonderful feeling -- and then for it to progress to college is even better! I hope and pray that all of these boys keep their grades up and move on to college (w/ college scholarships of course).

My apologies for allowing our posts to reach "that" certain level. That was certainly not my intent!

Have a great day!

AMEN!

So, let's all get our heads together to figure out what we have to do to change it!!! Where do we start?

Ask any coach in middle school and high school and I'm quite sure they are JUST as frustrated with it all as the parents! All Paulding school coaches and parents should come together to let the BOE understand that there's a problem!!!

I'm in!

Disclaimer: I'm not saying sports is more important than academics, but most of our kids are already performing academically -- so let's straighten out the sports problem and make our schools better as a whole!

I would love to, however, Mr. Colvard doesn't seem to think there is a problem.

IMO, the middle school and especially the high school coaches have got to be the ones who lead the charge in this area. As I've posted on this topic before- Andy Dorsey over at Hiram knows first hand what a strong junior program means in terms of success at the high school level. The way it's set up in Paulding is just silly to me- middle schools in the county only play against one another; some middle schools feed two different high schools and some high schools are fed by two different middle schools. How can the varsity coach institute his system with this set up? Now he's not able to begin teaching them offensive/defensive schemes until they're freshmen. Makes the turn around at EP even more amazing.

Same thing goes for basketball, softball, etc. Playing outside competition is vital to increasing the level of play.

He used to be at CA Roberts, didn't he? These problems have been in Paulding for a long time -- I may be wrong, but hasn't he only been at the BOE for 3 or 4 years?

Do you think he'd recognize that there was a problem if parents and coaches from all the schools got together and talked to him? Or would still not listen?

I don't know him very well, so that's why I'm asking.

I would bet that most of the coaches are frustrated. The issue is with the area principals especially on the middle school level. Any changes that want to be made by the coaches has to be approved by the principals yet I have serious reservations that Colvard has brought those issues before them. You have many anti-sports middle school principals out there.

It starts with Colvard and I wish he was not the one who got that job. The only way to change it is to get someone in there who really cares about athletics instead of just collecting a county paycheck. He is clueless when it comes to athletics in this county. The coaches/ AD's and Principals I have associated with the last few years all want a change to better athletics and just need some help from the higher ups.

you are so right G.until the parks that feed the schools start working w/ the schools(and the middle schools start working w/ the high schools)---there will be no championships.also, until the boe and the principals fully support athletics--county wide(boe) and school wide(principals)--there will always be underachievement,or so to speak.they don't have to sacrifice their integrity or scholastics to be ultra-competitve year in , year out.a county's board(or whatever) has to support equally and not be biased from one school to another----even steven.

good luck to all!!!
