All my receipes are on my other computer and it isn't on right now. Let me google. It's pretty standard.

I do know when I changed to milk chocolate I left off the parifin and used candy making chocolate. I just didn't care for the parafin added in.

Don't get me wrong... I will eat it... just prefer the candy making chocolate.

We make and decorate shortbread cookies, also almond cookies, rum balls, fudge, lebkuchen, and whatever else I get roped into making. It's fun, though.
RIP Gordon, you can safely buy green bananas again.

I'm baking as I type this. This actually is one of the first times I've sat down today. Me and a girlfriend have made today: 4 batches of peanut butter blossoms, 3 batches of haystacks, 4 batches of peanut brittle, 3 batches of white trash, and a huge batch of chocolate covered pretzels. I'm going to be working on magic cookie bars tonight and almond raspberry thumbprints.

Its a cake baked in a wide mouthed canning jar. When they come out of the oven, you add a canning lid and they seal and keep for awhile.

Sad cake is a breakfast type cake. It's called Sad cake because it rises so pretty and falls when it cools. It has bisquick, brown sugar (an entire box!), eggs, nuts and coconut. It smells wonderful when cooking.

I love haystacks!!! I haven't made magic cookie bars in sometime. It was my pig out food in high school. I would either make magic cookie bars (we call them hello dollies) or goey cake.

That sounds so cool. I am intrigued..... How do you get it out of the jar to eat it?

You Pam the jar... Only use wide mouthed canning jars. When the jar seals it pulls away from the sides and when you open it ... The cake slides right out.

Prepare the cake according to package instructions, or use any cake recipe.
In pint size, straight-sided wide-mouth jars, put 1 cup of batter in each greased jar. Make sure to keep the rims of the jars clean. Put in preheated oven 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place jars on a cookie sheet to keep from tipping over while baking.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean.
While they are baking, have your jar lids boiling in a pan of water. When the cake is done, take one jar out at a time and add the hot lid and screw on your jar ring and let set and cool.
It will seal as it cools. Place the jars on the counter and listen for them to 'ping' as they seal. If you miss the 'ping', wait until they are completely cool and press on the top of the lid. If it doesn't move at all, it's sealed.
After it cools it will pull away from the jar and when you are ready to eat, open and pop out the cake and enjoy.

Here are some websites about the cakes:

Recipe Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook

Mine is a bit different. Got it from somewhere and modified it a little.

1 cup peanut butter
1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup graham cracker crumbs (optional)
2 cups semi-sweet choco chips
3 (1 ox.) squares semi-sweet baking choco, chopped
1 tbsp shortening

In a medium bowl, mix peanut butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Stir in graham cracker crums until well blended. Form dough into 1 inch balls by rollng in your hands. Melt semi-sweet choco chips, squares, and shortening in the top half of a double boiler. Use a fork to dip balls into melted chocolate, and then place on waxed paper to cool.

(not sure the difference in bakers chocolate squares...perhaps has more cacao than the semi-sweet choco chips.)

Thanks, I'm gonning to go to the store to get a cake mix and some jars to try this now. That would be great for food storage. How long do they last?

The graham crackers sound interesting. Do they make it crunchy?

All next week, starting tomorrow. I make it for the staff at my school. I love to bake but my kids are so picky that they won't eat any of it, and I'm not married. So I look for any excuse to make candy or any other recipe.

Does anyone have a "real" old-fashioned fudge recipe to share? Gommie (my grandmother) used to make it before she passed and I can not get ahold of her recipe. Mom used to have it, but it seems to have been lost, or misplaced, during moving. I know it had cocoa powder, sugar, etc...no choc chips or marshmallow cream. We would cook it to soft ball stage for icing or hard ball for fudge. I think that's how we did it..it's been 20+ years since I've "helped" her make this.

Chocolate Fudge
An old fashioned recipe made with cocoa and butter
3 cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups toasted chopped walnuts*

In a heavy 4-quart saucepan over medium heat combine sugar, cocoa, milk, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking, not stirring, until mixture reaches 235° on a candy thermometer, or until it reaches soft ball stage**. Remove from heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Let stand to cool for about 1 hour, until mixture comes to room temperature. Wit a wooden spoon, beat until fudge thickens and loses its gloss. Stir in toasted walnuts and spoon into a buttered 8-inch square pan. Cool completely then cut into 1-inch squares. Makes about 64 pieces.
*To toast nuts, spread out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast in a 350° oven, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes. Or, toast in an ungreased skillet over medium heat, stirring, until golden brown and aromatic.

**To Test for Soft Ball Stage
A small amount of syrup dropped into chilled water forms a ball, but is soft enough to flatten when picked up with fingers (234° to 240°).
